DENVER – The two Colorado electors who saw their attempts to get a state law that requires them to vote for the winner of the state’s popular vote for president dashed by a federal judge Monday filed an appeal Tuesday in the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Monday, U.S. District Court of Colorado Judge Wiley Daniel denied Polly Baca and Robert Nemanich’s motion for a temporary restraining order that would have blocked the state law that now requires they vote for Hillary Clinton, since she won Colorado’s popular vote. Continue reading
2 Colorado electors file suit in hopes of not voting for Clinton as anti-Trump movement continues
DENVER – The long-shot attempt by two of Colorado’s Electoral College voters to put someone in the White House not named Donald Trump grew short legs Tuesday when the electors filed a lawsuit against Colorado’s secretary of state, governor and attorney general saying they shouldn’t have to vote for Hillary Clinton as state law requires.
Robert Nemanich, of Colorado Springs, and Polly Baca, a former state senator from Denver, filed the suit Tuesday in U.S. District Court of Colorado after a week of posturing – saying they would work with other electors from across the country to make someone other than Trump president. Highlands Ranch woman bought gun before picking up sons; she died of self-inflicted gunshot wound
LONE TREE, Colo. – The woman found dead in a van Wednesday along with her two young sons bought a new gun an hour before she picked her sons up from school on Tuesday, and the gun was used in their deaths.
Lone Tree police spokesman Tim Beals said Jennifer Laber, 38, bought a Glock 9mm around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and picked her sons, aged 5 and 3, up from school about an hour later. They were taken out of school before the normal dismissal time. Continue reading
Donald Trump backs off some campaign promises, reinforces others in ’60 Minutes’ interview
DENVER – Americans got their first look at what a Donald Trump White House will look like Sunday in an interview with “60 Minutes,” and the president-elect is already tamping down expectations for some of the promises he made during the campaign season.
Trump’s interview with Leslie Stahl was done last week and released Sunday. The two talked about the election, taxes, the Affordable Care Act, foreign policy, immigration and the economy, among other subjects. Continue reading

DENVER — Thousands saw a plane circling the Denver metro area late Wednesday morning, questioning where it may have come from and what it may be doing. Officials at a host of federal organizations had few answers.

DENVER — A transgender woman says she woke up to find her car vandalized with hate speech, a swastika and a pro-Donald Trump message in Denver’s Capitol Hill Wednesday morning, and police are now investigating.

FBI: Hate crimes against Muslims up by 67 percent in 2015
DENVER – The number of hate crimes reported to police increased by 6.7 percent in 2015 and included a large spike in crimes against Muslims.
Nearly 15,000 law enforcement agencies across the county report hate crime statistics each year. Of those involved in the program, 1,742 reported 5,850 separate hate crime incidents last year. Continue reading
What does the future hold for Coloradans after Tuesday’s General Election?
DENVER – Tuesday’s General Election marked a monumental shift in American politics, as voters elected a new president, shifted the makeup of Congress and approved several measures in Colorado that will have long-lasting effects in state politics.
Voters elected Republican Donald Trump to the presidency via the Electoral College and also confirmed that both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate will remain in control of the GOP, which means Republicans now should have a better chance of passing laws than had been the case in most of the past years, when the presidency and the two chambers of Congress were held by different parties. Initial ballot return numbers show strong effect on Colorado outcome made by unaffiliated voters
DENVER – Though ballots are still being counted in Colorado and final tallies won’t be known for several weeks, data released Wednesday by the Secretary of State’s Office give some insight into how powerful the unaffiliated vote was in the state’s presidential election.
Colorado went to Hillary Clinton – the current tally shows her receiving 47 percent of the vote compared to 44.8 percent for Donald Trump, who won the presidency in the election. Continue reading
Colorado’s voter turnout tops 2012 presidential election; Republicans double ballot submission lead
DENVER – Voter turnout in Colorado has already topped turnout in the 2012 presidential election, and Republicans doubled their voting lead over Democrats in the first half of Tuesday.
Unaffiliated and Republican voters in Colorado continued their strong turnout during Election Day, according to numbers released Tuesday afternoon by the Secretary of State’s Office. Continue reading
