Family of Golden man killed, allegedly by couple linked to Utah murder, releases statement
GOLDEN, Colo. – The family of 63-year-old Mitchell Ingle, who was allegedly killed by a couple also linked to the murder of a University of Utah student earlier this week, on Friday issued a statement remembering him as a loving family member and more.
“Mitchell Ingle was a loving father, brother, husband, grandfather, and friend to all. He enjoyed skiing, boating, four wheeling, and camping. We will miss his contagious laugh, humor, and easygoing personality,” the family statement said.
“He was taken from us unexpectedly and will forever be in our memories,” it continued. “We would like to thank everyone for their gifts, thoughts, and prayers. We would ask that you give us time to grieve and process the loss of our loved one. We request our privacy during this difficult time.”
Ingle was found dead inside his home early Tuesday morning.
Austin Boutain and his wife, Kathleen Boutain, are believed to have stolen his truck and three firearms from his home. Austin is accused of using one of the stolen weapons to shoot and kill a student at the University of Utah. He faces several charges, including murder, in regards to that case, and remains jailed in Salt Lake City.
Police documents show that Austin said he’d traded another one of the guns for an ounce of marijuana.
Kathleen Boutain also remains jailed in Salt Lake City, though she was allegedly assaulted by her husband before he committed the murder in Utah—something that might have set off the murder of the student, police said.
Police in Golden, meanwhile, haven’t released many details about how the couple knew Ingle, saying only that they had met recently and “did not have a long-term relationship.”
The Golden Police Department said earlier this week it would present its investigation to the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office for recommended charges of first-degree murder, robbery, and motor vehicle theft for both of the Boutains.
Golden police said earlier this week the department had interviewed both of them, and that they were the only suspects in Ingle’s murder. The department says the two will likely face charges in Utah before being extradited to Colorado to face possible charges.
