Teen accused in brutal attack on Boulder County woman arrested in Broomfield
BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. – Authorities arrested the teenager accused of beating an older Boulder County woman nearly to death Thursday evening in Broomfield.
Jeffrey Collins, 16, faces attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault charges in the brutal attack on Katie Kulpa that happened Monday night in Lefthand Canyon after Kulpa offered Collins and two others teens a ride.
Collins was found in Broomfield just after 8:10 p.m. Thursday and was taken into custody — without incident, according to the sheriff’s office — by a team of Boulder County sheriff’s deputies, US Marshals and Broomfield Police Department officers.
He has been booked into the county’s juvenile detention center with a $1 million bond.
Kulpa’s son spoke with Denver7 Thursday, saying he would never “in a million years” expect such an attack to happen to her.
The family is looking for the two other teens Collins was with, who reported the attack to a neighbor of Kulpa’s, which they credit with saving her life.
The sheriff’s office says it continues to investigate the assault and that detectives are still looking to interview the driver of a white hatchback that Collins got into after the alleged assault.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Boulder County Detective Shatek at 303-441-3633.
